Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a booking for my wedding?
First of all, thank you for considering me to be an essential part of your big day— it’s an honour! And secondly, please contact me to check my availability. Weddings are usually booked around a year in advance, but I often have a free weekend where I can be available at the last minute, so it’s always worth checking!
All wedding packages include a client consultation, which involves me meeting up with you (or having a chat via email if you live a considerable distance) on an informal, relaxed basis to discuss what it is you want from me as your wedding photographer and any plans you might have that are slightly different from the norm, that I will need to know about. It’s also a great opportunity for us to meet before Your Big Day, so I can answer any questions you may have and hopefully to ease any nerves you might have about having your photo taken or meeting me on the morning of your wedding, when there are more important things to think about!
A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total price is required to book the date. The remainder is to be paid 14 days prior to your wedding day.
How far are you willing to travel?
Absolutely anywhere! I’m located in Surrey, but I’ll travel to the other end of the country, or a whole other country if you’d really like me to! An additional travel fee is charged for all weddings more than 50 miles from my location in Surrey and accommodation costs would need to be covered in extreme circumstances. Please contact me for more information and to discuss your wedding.
What does creative reportage entail?
Creative reportage is an approach to photography that’s unobtrusive and allows me to photograph special moments when the subject is unaware that I’m even there. It produces fantastic, fun and natural results that are a better representation of your day, than staged scenes and posed photos ever could be.
I want to do something unique on my wedding day for you to photograph, is that ok?
Definitely! I absolutely encourage my brides and their grooms to let loose and get creative. I’d love to hear your ideas!
We want some formal photos, is that okay?
Of course! I always start with some formal photographs before letting you carry on with your day while I snap away. Everyone is different though and I’m aware that some people will want more formal photos than others. This is something we can discuss at your consultation and we can create a list of the all the people you’d like your photo taken with, so we can be sure no one is missed!
What's a portrait session?
A portrait session is usually a few hours long and allows me to capture some photos of (usually) yourself, your family, your children or your special occasion, on location (i.e. not in a studio) for use on your website, portfolio, for your business or simply some prints to put in a frame at home. You can read more about portrait sessions here or contact me to discuss the details of yours.
What if I'm shy?
I’ve been there and done that, and can totally sympathise! I will do my utmost to put you at ease and I generally find that couples are a lot less nervous if we’ve met up before your wedding day, which is why the client consultation is so useful! On the day, we can just have a chat and hopefully have some fun while I shoot away. We can be creative or do something simple— it’s completely up to you.
Do you carry spare equipment?
Yes, I always carry a spare camera body, lens and battery.
How long will the photography take?
It’s very much dependent on the package you choose and the length of the ceremony and reception that you already have planned. I will arrive during one of the most exciting and nerve-racking times— the bride getting ready! I will stay there as long as the distance allows, before moving on to the location of the wedding ceremony, so I can arrive before the bridal party. Photographs during the ceremony will be of a reportage style, before spending approximately half an hour to capture a few group shots. I like to do this asap after the ceremony as it can be difficult to gather people otherwise! I will then spend about an hour or so with just the bride and groom, photographing you in different locations— this is your chance to be creative and wild, so it’s up to you if you’d like to spend more time with this part! I’ll then leave you to enjoy your big day and snap away in the background, up until the wedding breakfast speeches or the first dance, depending on the package that you have chosen.
Can my guests order prints?
Absolutely. Your photos will be uploaded to a password-protected gallery which your guests are free to view and order from, unless you request otherwise.
How long will it take to get our photos back?
I aim to take no longer than three weeks for you to get your photos in your hands, although if you’re jetting off on your honeymoon right away, I try my best to have it ready for your return. If you have just requested the photos on CD only, this will be even quicker!
